Dance & Drama Classes for Pre-School children
We are pleased to offer Melody Bear and Nursery Ballet & Tap classes classes as an ideal introduction for boys and girls to the world of dance, drama and movement.
Qualified teachers at Graham School of Dance are specially trained to engage children from around the age of 2 to dance through the Melody Movement Early Learning's delightful dance-mad teddy Melody Bear. She is often joined by her friends, including Milligan Bear – Melody Bear’s friend. He dances in class with Melody Bear and has stories, stickers and awards for boys who love to dance.
Pre-School dance, drama and movement classes are run weekly during term time in Bishop’s Stortford, Stansted, Church Langley and Hertford, and introduce children to dance & movement using the natural actions of the body such as running, jumping, skipping and galloping. Melody Tap has also recently been introduced at our Hertford branch .
The syllabus was created by teacher Jill Bridger, who says: "Melody Bear © classes ... aid children’s physical development, coordination, spatial awareness, creativity & self-expression working individually, with a partner, or as a group.... Melody Movement classes are tailored to discovering and fulfilling the potential of each child, nurturing their creative development".
Melody Movement classes also introduce children to other fundamental curriculum learning skills such as counting, colour and shape recognition, vocabulary and language skills. The strength of the system is that learning is achieved through imaginative movement which is enjoyable and fun. Melody Movement instils a love of dance making it a positive element of their early lives which stays with them. They learn from a young age how music, movement, dance and the imagination can be combined to tell a story and convey emotions. See www.melodymovement.com
From age 3, children progress into our Nursery Ballet classes, often with Introductory Tap alongside too. Nursery Ballet classes are held at ALL our branches as well as at our main centre in Bishop's Stortford, and through a non-syllabus based curriculum, pupils are introduced to Classical Ballet in a fund and nurturing way, enabling children to progress into Royal Academy of Dance classes at Pre-Primary level once they reach age 4-5, as well as Drama, Tap, Modern and Street Dance and Musical Theatre lessons at this age too.
